About the band
Grave Digger is a German heavy-metal band founded in 1980 in Gladbeck. They are among the leading representatives of classic German metal, having made their name with an energetic, loud sound and themes drawn from history and mythology. In the early 1980s they debuted with the album Heavy Metal Breakdown, followed by a string of successful records and concerts across Europe.
In the 1990s the band reunited after a brief split and released several concept albums, including the well-known "medieval trilogy" (Tunes of War, Knights of the Cross, Excalibur). Since the 2000s, Grave Digger have continued to release albums regularly, tour extensively and change their line-up frequently, with singer Chris Boltendahl remaining their constant central figure. The band is still active today and ranks among the long-respected acts on the metal scene.
